Is there anything more boring than that guy who won’t shut up about his fantasy team? It’s like when your ex-girlfriend used to try to tell you about The Bachelorette during prime scotch drinking time. And that’s why you’re an ex, Brenda! However, the team I constructed last night took first out of 200 and I plan on putting all that cash towards a new and improved liver. Thanks, Obamacare!
I’m not trying to bore y’all with the details, but it was the bargain basement plays that put me over the top. When it comes to constructing a roster for DFS play those bargain basement players mean just as much as your big named expensive stars.Tonight, I’m looking to construct the all-bargain-basement team that’ll feature nothing but players under $4,500. Wish me luck! Feel free to scatter a few of these guys through your roster or be bold and play them all!
Here’s your dirty turbaned Guru’s all-bargain-basement team for Wednesday’s 5/21. Good luck, cheers.
SP 1- Jered Weaver, $11,000: Ok, so it’s not all a bargain basement team, but we have to pay for pitching and why not grab the best on the board tonight. Weaver has not given up more than two runs in his last six starts and gets an Astros team that is second in the league in strikeouts.
SP 2 – Tyson Ross, $9,200: Ross has been rocking lately averaging 7+ Ks and just a run a game in his last three starts. He gets the Twins at Petco tonight and that’s money.
C – Jarrod Saltalamacchia, $3,400: Salty is one of those players that can go 0-4 or hit two bombs. Tonight we’ll settle for one homer off Kyle Kendrick.
1B – Adam Lind, $3,900: There are a number of pricey first baseman tonight, but for your Guru’s bargain basement team let’s look to Lind who can crush righties and gets Clay Buchholz at Fenway.
2B – Derek Dietrich, $3,600: wOBA (weighted on-base average) is one of the key stats I check when constructing a lineup and Dietrich’s wOBA for the night is higher than Dustin Pedroia, Brian Dozier and Dee Gordon all players that’ll cost you big.
3B – Conor Gillespie, $3,700: I know there are sexier names out there, but they’re also pricey dates. I’ll take Gillespie who hits in the top of the order and went 3-for-4 last night.
SS -Eduardo Escobar, $2,800: Escobar is quietly averaging nearly 6 FPTS a game this season and has a hit or run in 10 straight games.
OF 1 – Seth Smith, $4,400: I love me some wOBA and The Lisperer has one of the highest of night. Believe in the power of the wOBA.
OF – A.J. Pollock,: $4,000:This is a risky play, especially against Michael Wacha, but the fish that saved Phoenix has done me right again and again this season and I’ll roll him out there tonight.
OF 3 – Jason Heyward, $3,800: In 10 ABs against Kyle Loshe, J-Hey has two doubles and a home run. He’s been heating up lately with eight hits in his last four games.
Make sure to check the lineups, give a look at the weather and buy me a cider with your winnings.
