Senators to NFL: Redskins’ Racist Name Has Got to Go

50 members of the United States Senate had nothing better to do with their time than talk a little football Thursday. The lawmakers in D.C. have fired off a letter to the NFL urging the league to force the Washington Redskins to change their name.

The letter stated, “The NFL can no longer ignore this and perpetuate the use of this name as anything but what it is: a racial slur.”

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said, “I have 22 tribal organizations in Nevada. They are not mascots. They are human beings. And this term Redskins is offensive.” Reid then cashed in $150,000 worth off chips at Mohegan Sun.

The franchise has been known as the Redskins since 1933, when it played in the always racially sensitive city of Boston.

Redskins owner Dan Sterling Snyder has said in the past that he has no intention of changing the name, that it’s “not an issue,” but if he were to change the name he’s considering renaming the club the Washington Pollocks.
