The Daily Degenerate Fantasy Baseball Picks 6/19

It’s Thirsty Thursday, my daily degenerates. Someone get me a mojito!  It’s been a successful week thus far as your humble-but-nonetheless-handsome Guru has doubled the bankroll. Someone get Clayton Kershaw a mojito. That was a masterful performance – and by masterful I mean he made me a lot of green. I’m one step closer to a winter of fun in the sun, thong watching and one giant mojito. We’re going to need more limes!

What’s up with these split slates, MLB? It’s another day of early games and seven games this evening. While I have a couple roster entries this afternoon, let’s focus on tonight’s games on DraftKings.

Here’s your dirty turbaned Guru’s team for Thursday 6/19. Good luck, cheers.

All values are based on DraftKings pricing.

SP 1 – Jordan Zimmerman, $10,200: Zimmy is averaging 30+ FPTS over his last three starts and faces a Braves team that likes to strikeout. A lot. Another less pricey possibility is Scott Kazmir who gets the Red Sox who just made a cross country trip and need a nap.

SP 2 – Andrew Heaney, $6,500: I’m breaking my own personal rule here of not starting a rookie in their debut. But, Heaney is just too tempting against the K happy Metropolitans. In the minors, Heaney put up a 2.47 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and had 79 strikeouts over 76 innings. Told you he was tempting. If you’re too ‘fraid to roll with Heaney, Chirs Archer should have a good game against the Astros.

C – John Jaso, $3,800: Jaso and the A’s face the Red Sox’ Jake Peavy who isn’t *puts pinky to mouth* very athletic. Brian McCann is also in play and he had a homer last night.

1B – Jose Abreu, $5,000: Sure he’s pricey, but it’s worth it. Abreu is facing a 30-year-old rooking making his big league debut who will be working at Burger King after this one. Abreu is your Guru’s Dong of the Day. Want fries with that?

2B – Danny Espinosa, $3,000: It’s a punt with upside. “Upside” is a technical term they teach up at the Fantasy Baseball College for the Criminally Insane that means, “I really have no idea what he’s going to do, but the price is right.” Want to spend up? Look to Danny’s teammate Anthony Rendon who is on fire right now.

3B – Matt Carpenter, $4,100: Carps and the Cards are getting hot. Wednesday night Carpenter went 2-for-4 with a homer, a double, a couple runs scored and is the best third baseman on the board tonight.

SS – Alexi Ramirez, $3,700: I like the look of this roster. A couple Cardinals, a few A’s and sprinkle in some White Sox. I expect all three teams to put up runs against bad pitching tonight. Alexi has cooled a bit, but a soft tossing 30-something rookie pitcher is just the thing to get him going again. If you like to spend at shortstop spend away on Jose Reyes tonight.

OF 1 – Matt Holliday, $4,700: Grabbing a couple Matts from the Cards tonight. Come to think of it, Matt Adams is in play tonight too. Holliday has been heating up with five hits, four RBI and three runs scored over his last five games and has a .350ish wOBA vs. righties. Want to spend up? Throw some dolla bills Joey Bats way at Yankee Stadium.

OF 2 – Brandon Moss, $4,600: Moss + Jake Peavy’s 4.53 ERA ÷ Moss’ .381 wOBA against righties = $$$$

OF 3 – Brett Gardner, $4,200: Gardner may not go double dong, but he does have two homers this week, can grab a couple steals and hits at the top of the order. If you’re looking to go on the cheap I think Adam Eaton is in a good spot tonight too.

Make sure to check the lineups, give a look at the weather and buy me a mojito with your winnings.
