According to the Los Angeles Times, the Los Angeles Angels of somewhere near Los Angeles are working to complete a multi-year contract with Mike Trout that could make him baseball’s first $300 million man.
The Times reports:
“The sides hope to reach a deal after the season starts. Any disappointment over a renewal should be erased by the prospect of what could be a record-setting contract likely to include a signing bonus far exceeding Trout’s 2014 salary.”
The contract would dwarf those of MLB’s highest paid – Alex Rodriguez, Clayton Kershaw and Robinson Cano.
If there’s a player worth a 10-year, $300 million deal, it’s Trout. Just 22 years-old with two MVP caliber seasons under his belt, a career batting line of .314/.404/.544 (166 OPS+), he’s averaged 30 homers, 35 doubles and 41 stolen bases per 162 games played.
Be it this season or next, Trout is going to see the money and will be a force and the face of baseball for years to come.
